Freebie Friday

Freebie Friday #32: “You can call me flower if you want to.”

HOLY CRUD, IT’S FRIDAY.  I think that I say that every week.  Internally, at least.  Don’t we all?  And hey, why not make Friday even better with free printable?

Today’s print is simple in design, and smaller in size than previous printables.  It achieves a certain degree of nerdiness but does it in a way that it’s just plain adorable.

You Can Call Me Flower If You Want To

Let me start off by offending everyone around me, shall I?  Okay, here I go.  I don’t like Bambi.  Phew, good to get that out.

Now, don’t get me wrong, the 1942 film is an animated achievement, setting a new standard for animation with its oil painting backdrops full of such rich colors that, to this day, it almost feels alive.  Filled to the brim with a wobbly legged fawn, we watch the the glow of nature through his young eyes.  You know, until Disney lets this sweet fairy tale get cremated right alongside the forest it took place in.

When it comes down to it, Bambi is great because of the very reason that I don’t enjoy it.  It fulfills so much of life that it’s not really a fantasy film, when you think about it.  Sure, Bambi is called a “prince”, but there’s no breaking the spell, no magic wand to pull out when things go bad.  And boy, do things go badly in this film.

For me, this movie is just too freaking sad.  I can’t handle it.  But is it a crap movie?  Not at all.  Like I said, I fully admit that Bambi is a realm all its own within the Disney repertoire.  In fact, for me to avoid watching it because it’s got too much heartbreak for me, in a way that just testifies to the fact that it’s that good of a film.  Feelin’ the feels, yo.

While I am not super willing to re-watch Bambi, I certainly internalized its quotes.  We all know Thumper’s, “If you can’t say anything nice, don’t say anything at all,” but even more well-known are that adorable skunk’s comment when Bambi mistakes him for a flower–the inspiration for today’s no-frills free printable.

Today’s printable if offered in a 5×7 format rather than our normal 8×10, but since its saved at 300 DPI there’s a lot of scaling you can do when going to print it!  But see?  It’s not like I hate Bambi, I just… ugh, guys it’s so tragic.
