Freebie Friday #6: Defenders

DEFENDERS IS OUT.  Guys, this is not a drill.  The Defenders has officially been dropped on Netflix for, oh, over half a day now.  So now here’s the real question:  How many have already binge watched the season in its entirety?

I’m waiting to start watching it until after the kids go to bed tonight so Brad and I can stay up way too late and watch the whole thing in one run.  You know, because that’s a crazy night on the town when you’re married with three kids.

(Just kidding, I would be spending my nights like that even if I was single.  Introverts, UNITE.)

Since the dawn of this “non-team”, the Defenders have always been a grouping of outsider heroes who are known for following their own agendas.

However, the members than we see now–Jessica Jones, Daredevil, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist–is a completely new variation of the Defenders.  Originally, the team was headed by Doctor Strange and included the Hulk, Namor, and Silver Surfer, among others.  Yeah, completely different than what we see today.

While the idea of a street level supers team is quite brilliant on its own–and makes a lot of sense–the presence of Daredevil is interesting.  In the comics, Jessica Jones and Luke Cage are eventually married and have a child together.  Iron Fist is an easy additional to those two, as he’s well-known in print as Luke’s BFF.  Those three make sense together.  Daredevil, on the other hand, has never really been a team player.

Even throughout big comic book events like Civil War and Secret Wars, Daredevil was completely absent.  It wasn’t until New Avengers #16 in 2011 that Daredevil agreed on some team play, and that’s only after his big whoopsie in the Shadowland arc (basically where he’s possessed by the Beast of the Hand and ends up pissing off Spider-Man, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, and a bunch of other street-level heroes).

So, what motivates him to be apart of a team in the new Defenders?  That’s what I’m excited to see.  SO EXCITED.  Which is why, for today’s free printable, we’re going Defenders themed–inspired by the photo above.  Print this out and snuggle it while you binge watch.

If you didn’t already know, The Defenders is currently streaming, along with its four precursor series, on Netflix.
